FAQ - Sewing Accessories

At minimum: machine needles, thread, bobbins, fabric scissors, pins or clips, a seam ripper and a measuring tape. A sewing kit bundles most of these.

Supplies are the items you use up or replace regularly, like needles, thread and bobbins. Accessories are tools and attachments that extend what your machine or workspace can do, like presser feet, quilting guides and storage.

Match the needle type to your fabric (for example ballpoint for knits, denim for heavy fabric) and the size to its weight. Lower numbers suit lightweight fabrics, higher numbers suit heavier ones.

A common rule is every 8 hours of sewing, or at the start of each new project. Change it sooner if you hear popping, skip stitches or see snagged fabric.

It depends on the brand, model and shank type (low, high or slant). Check your machine’s manual, or compare the product’s compatibility details with your model number.
